Collaborating for Kids’ Sake

Because working together is common sense.

Family Compass is a collective effort of 16 grassroots organizations giving speedy, no-nonsense access to proven, existing services. Launched in 2024, we will offer placement stabilization to a sample group of 40 kinship and foster families in El Paso and Teller Counties. Our peer support team, employed by Kids Crossing, streamlines access to each support activity (as needed per family), making it easy and affordable for overwhelmed families. In addition to tangible grassroots support, we educate families about trauma-informed mental and physical health providers for a whole-child approach.

When foster & kinship families are overwhelmed & isolated, kids lose.

A friendly face & quick coordination.

Local nonprofits offer tangible supports to kinship & foster families. Sadly, they’re often too overwhelmed to access those services.

Families are not experts at navigating the foster and kinship system with all its waitlists and complexities. Because of that, children often go without crucial treatment. We’re here to change that.

We make it simple to get help.

Our expert Navigators have one priority: find the most effective supports and resources for our families. We understand the stresses of life for kinship and foster families (because we’ve lived it ourselves!).

So we go beyond a resource list (which quickly goes out of date). Our model hinges on personal relationships with the Navigator and nonprofit partners to tailor each family’s services to their unique needs.

Hear From Families We've Served

Testimonials

"I am so very grateful for all we have received! From car seats to organizing, to emotional support from Music Therapy, & gift cards to get the essentials! This is an amazing program that WORKS!"

"Despite desperately needing the space, we have had a hands full with our foster teen and were completely overwhelmed every time we tried to tackle our garage. You came in and transformed the space. We were speechless and in awe of the kindness and support we received."

- Gerardo & Ginelle Orozco

"The Family Compass has helped us out of the most confusing, emotionally hopeless feeling of aloneness, and distress."

This program has stirred up new hope! New ideas! New resources! And a new network of amazing, caring people who go above and beyond to help!

"I've sat on all sides of the desk as a foster parent, foster youth, and now a therapist. The Family Compass has been invaluable in helping connect families to the right resources at the right time. It can be really hard to find a team that "gets it" but The Family Compass has been able to create a community of families, youth, and professionals who can come together with a common goal - helping families thrive."

Getting families what they need, with speed.

Emergency Needs

With kinship families often facing poverty, we start with meeting basic needs like groceries, clothing, and, when possible, outstanding bills and healthcare needs.

Navigation

To stabilize the whole home in this traumatic season, we find immediately available therapies in the modality and environment that meets the unique needs of the child and caregiver.

Enrichment

Our nonprofit partners provide activities full of joy, like sports, arts, camps, sibling connection days, equine groups, and bikes, ensuring a full childhood for our kids.

Support

We offer a monthly, in-person support group with dinner and childcare, offering training and peer support for daily challenges, supplemented by our other support offerings.
