At The Family Compass, we collaborate with local nonprofits to provide families commonsense support so foster and kinship care is a more healing experience.
When we offer families commonsense support, foster and kinship care is a more healing experience.
Family Compass is a collective effort of 16 grassroots organizations giving speedy, no-nonsense access to proven, existing services. Launched in 2024, we will offer placement stabilization to a sample group of 40 kinship and foster families in El Paso and Teller Counties. Our peer support team, employed by Kids Crossing, streamlines access to each support activity (as needed per family), making it easy and affordable for overwhelmed families. In addition to tangible grassroots support, we educate families about trauma-informed mental and physical health providers for a whole-child approach.
Local nonprofits offer tangible supports to kinship & foster families. Sadly, they’re often too overwhelmed to access those services.
Families are not experts at navigating the foster and kinship system with all its waitlists and complexities. Because of that, children often go without crucial treatment. We’re here to change that.
Our expert Navigators have one priority: find the most effective supports and resources for our families. We understand the stresses of life for kinship and foster families (because we’ve lived it ourselves!).
So we go beyond a resource list (which quickly goes out of date). Our model hinges on personal relationships with the Navigator and nonprofit partners to tailor each family’s services to their unique needs.
